The Luang Say Cruise Itineraries
About the Luang Say Lodge (inclusive in the itinerary)
On the left bank of the river, the Luang Say Lodge is backed by mountainous jungle. The large pavilions of solid teak and rosewood all have beautiful vistas looking out over theMekong river and the mountains beyond. The traditional Laotian architecture provides accommodation of comfort and character, each bedroom equipped with high ceiling mosquito nets, electric fans and a large private bathroom with hot shower and western style toilet.
The Luang Say Lodge sits majestically above the Mekong River, blending artfully into the natural environment through careful landscaping, raised platforms and indigenous styling. It features 17 large pavilions, each elegantly furnished in dark toned wood and white fabrics, and offering stunning views on three sides of the Mekong.
A central riverbank restaurant is reached by wooden walkways from the pavillions. Here you will enjoy fine, mainly organic, food and can order a choice of drinks from the well stocked bar.
On days with passengers exceeding 20 people, we include an ethnic minority dance performance in the restaurant area. The performers are a mixture of our Luang Say Lodge staff, local villagers and school children.
Bungalow
Built in 1998, the LuangSay Lodge is situated on four hectares of land with a traditional Laotian architectural design of 20 large bungalows, each with large open air windows looking out over the Mekong River and mountains.
Each room is fitted with comfortable beds, mosquito nets, electric mosquito coils, a ceiling fan and private bathrooms. Your spacious bathroom has a hot shower and a western style toilet.
We have wooden walkways linking all the rooms to the central restaurant and bar area, through our lovely gardens.
Our guests often fall under the charm of this place and wish to stay more than one night. If you like to do so, you may want to enquire about it in advance, it can often be arranged.
Restaurant
Looking for a charming restaurant on the Mekong ? The LuangSay lodge has a central riverbank restaurant, overlooking the Mekong River, is reached easily by wooden walkways from the guest bungalows.
The guests can either eat together or at their own separate tables.
The traditional Lao food buffet style
dinner, and the continental breakfast are served in this restaurant
area. Most of our vegetables are grown in our own gardens or the local
villages organically, with no artificial fertilizers or insecticides.
We can cater for special meals requests, if you advise us in advance.
The Lodge has a fully equipped bar serving soft drinks, beer Lao and spirits which you can purchase. You can also try our monthly cocktail or wine selection choice while watching the sun go down, served by our smiling staff.
Laotian coffee, tea and drinking water, are included free for the duration of your stay at the Lodge.
Traditional ethnic minority dance performances by Hmong, Khmu and Lue artists are given free with large groups.
Cultures
The opening of the Luang Say Lodge gave employment to 37 villagers and tribal people. The wages earned at the Lodge are three to four hundred percent higher than the local standard in Laos.
Villagers around the Luangsay Lodge are encouraged to grow fruits and vegetables and raise poultry and all their products are purchased by the Lodge. The Lodge also has its own eco project where we have a garden and plant nursery to provide vegetables for the restaurant, a fish pond for fresh fish (ask the staff if it is feeding day and you can help feed them) and we also have a small farmyard with goats and cows.
Staff working at the Lodge are taught the importance of hygiene and living in a healthy environment, and they are provided with free meals and possibly needed medical attention.
Luang Say Lodge hired a dance teacher to teach Khamu and Hmong people tribal dancing, which is now performed regularly. The Lodge also supports the financing of local musical instruments. Dancers and musicians are now able to earn their living without sacrificing their culture and traditions, as Luang Say was able to revive these old traditions for them which had been lost from the Pakbeng area.
The Lodge staff are still continuing to improve their English and customer service skills and we regularly send the staff down to Vientiane for training.
Today all the workers at the Lodge live
in harmony and consider each other as their family members. This is the
beauty of the Luang Say Lodge.
