The main cavern, which is up to 90 meters wide and 100 meters high,
the Kong Lor Cave can be reached by a 40 km overland trip from Ban Khoun
Kham to the village ‘Gateway to Kong Lor’ or by taking a slightly
longer but more adventurous boat trip up the Hinboun river beginning in
Napouak Village.
Day 1: Vientiane – Sala Hinboun (L/D)
Early morning, we are heading out to Khammouan Province, driving on
13th south towards Ban Napouak, our driving will last about 5 hours to
reach the Atacular area of NBCA preservation. En route, we have a short
stop on the top of Phuphaman mountain for admiring the lime stones
chains panorama, we get off at Ban Nahin, the Theun Hinboun hydropower
dam and board a long – tailed motorized boat and upstream the Nam
Hinboun river to Ban Phon Nheng, where the perfect stunning scenery and
natural remains, the boat trip will take us about 2 hours. Upon arrival
at the lodge, we visit local villages at Ban Namnon, Ban Mouang, Tham
Namnon, Tham Ki and the short trekking will take 2 – 3 hrs walk with
many stops greeting to villagers, who have very interesting culture and
life style. We will get a chance to learn more about their culture and
lifestyle of villagers. Overnight at Auberge Sala Hinboun.
Day 2: Sala Hinboun – Kong Lor – Sala Hinboun (B/L)
Breakfast, we set off our full day excursion by boat to the famous
cave and underground rivers of Kong Lor, the amazing 8km long cave
created by Hin Boun river, flowing through underground all year round.
We take a boat ride through the main cavern, which is up to 90 meters
wide and 100 meters high. The Kong Lor Cave can be reached by 40 km
overland trip from Ban Khoun Kham to the village ‘Gateway to Kong Lor’
or by taking a slightly longer but more adventurous boat trip up the
Hinboun river beginning in Napouak Village. The boat will take us pass
the legendary ‘Naga Palace’, a wider area inside the cave where
stalagmites and stalactites form impressive columns. At the entrance, a
crystal clear pool is an inviting spot for swimming. The excursion also
includes a short visit to Kong Lor village, situated amidst the rice
fields and Limestone Mountain. This cave is still used by local
villagers as a short cut communication between the north and the south
edges of the mountain. We return to the lodge by late afternoon.

Day 3: Sala Hinboun – Departure (B/L)
Breakfast, we are heading out of this small village toward the city of Thakhek or Lakxao (Nam Phao border gate).
