Dining on a junk boat

Visitors to Halong Bay often take day trip or overnight trip in a junk. Junk is a boat taking you to visit grottos, caves and traveling in the Bay.

Eating onboard when you are cruising the Bay is a nice experience. The calm water, the breeze, the stunning view of thousands of islets around when your junk moves and a little sun in clear day give you a totally relaxing time.

Food is included in your package. The junk boat will stop at some places selling seafood. They have houses with net inside the Bay water to keep their shrimps, fish, shell, etc. If you buy, the cook in your junk will cook for you and you can eat in your junk.

There are many kinds for you to choose: the “song” fish is about VND 600,000 / kg (roughly US$1 = VND21,000 as of Nov 2013). White small shell is VND220,000 / kg, etc.

If you rent the private junk for 2 days 1 night, VND 6,500,000 with 6 air conditioned cabins for 12 people for example, you can order what food you like or how much you want to pay, VND200,000 per person for example (figures as of Dec 2013).
